Acts 2:1-13 (Pt. 5) Thought/Prayer: Just the Right Language. Topics: 2 at end.
“Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.
“Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky. When this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language. They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, ‘Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans? How do we hear, everyone in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!’ They were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, ‘What does this mean?’ Others, mocking, said, ‘They are filled with new wine.’” WEB (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
Well, we don’t have to become idiotic to use idioms! Glad for that because we all use idioms to color our speech, so to speak :). Idioms are those ways of speaking that include understood meanings from words that are not saying that understood meaning. If I “clock out,” it has nothing to do with carrying a clock out the door; rather, it involves indicating the time of leaving work. To “cogitate” has nothing to do with cogs in a wheel: cogitating is pondering deeply about something. To press someone for information has nothing to do with throwing him on the ironing board for a good smoothing-out. Idioms are just ways of speaking, indirectly or with added informative aspects.
God put idioms into our Bible. “He [Jesus] replied, ‘In the evening you say, “It will be fine weather, for the sky is red;” and in the morning, “It will be rough weather to-day, for the sky is red and murky.” You learn how to distinguish the aspect of the heavens, but the signs of the times you cannot.’” (WNT) Most people of that time probably understood that when someone said “. . . for the sky is red . . .”, that they were speaking of oncoming weather.
“God’s Word is a two-edged sword”(Heb. 4:12). Surely everyone would know that this means his Word can have more than one meaning or effect, just as a sword that is honed on both sides of the blade.
Can we use such words or phrases when speaking with someone else about our Savior? Of course we can. And it’s up to the Holy Spirit to give us the words we need . . . the words that will mean the most to that person needing the Lord, the person about whom we care deeply unto salvation. Jesus used sheep as an example of those who follow him. Sheep are good at following their leader. So, if we were to share with someone from a farming background, for example, they would understand that when we follow Jesus, we are in a characteristic of sheep. (And, Jesus used the lovely illustration of going to find the lost sheep, and paintings show Him coming home with it around his shoulders.)
Lord, help us to know when to use language that is figurative, such as with idioms . . . help us to know the portrayals and words that a person will understand from their background, from their unique experience in the world. Thank you for giving us language that can apply to all people, everywhere . . . the exact people You call, colorfully, to follow You.
Topics: Pray for understanding of how to speak with someone regarding the Lord, with the just right language, even idioms, to reach them.

Friends of SBA List,
We are very happy to report that 45 national, state, and local pro-life groups have partnered together to form the Call2Conscience.com Campaign. See the full list below.
It’s not too late to join the coalition – just shoot me an email to join the effort.
The goal of the effort is simple: Mobilize as many Americans as possible to contact Congress this week and demand that conscience & religious liberty protections are included in upcoming must-pass legislation.
• Activists can send their Representative an e-mail through the coalition action center here: http://www.call2conscience.com.
• Activists can call their Representative here (phone # and talking points provided): http://www.call2conscience.com.
Any promotion to e-mail lists and social media is appreciated, and I am happy to provide draft action alert language you can use. Groups are welcome to use the coalition action center or use their own.
Second, there was a webcast on Tuesday Feb. 26th at 9 PM Eastern as part of the coalition emceed by David Bereit of 40 Days for Life.
Presenters on the call included Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), who is leading the charge on conscience in the House; Hon. Marilyn Musgrave of SBA List; Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life; and Steve Aden of Alliance Defending Freedom.

Pray for pro-life GA candidate Rev. Martin Hawley
From Margarita Szechenyi, forwarded by Peter Shinn, Pro-Life Unity
Pray for the campaign and for GA folk especially to turn out to help. Thanks—
Gail Richardson Prayer Pivot for Life
You may remember Rev. Martin Hawley of Hope Presbyterian in Marietta. He hosted several 40 Days for Life rallies for us in 2007/2008 and is interested in doing this again in the Fall (Aileen….Kateri….)
He’s running for office in the GA House of Reps. We really need pro-life folks to come out and help us, even if just for one hour, between now & the primaries on July 31st. We’ll try to work around your schedule if we can.
It totally doesn’t matter if you don’t live in his district—- if he’s elected, it will help all moms & babies in the whole state as he will work for their defense down there at the GA Capitol.
We just need folks to come out and hold a sign—- maybe some red, white & blue ballons, flags or whatever patriotic “bling” is your thing. :) If you can give just one hour of your time, I’ll see if I can match up another volunteer with you to stand and hold signs on a sidewalk in his Cobb County district. It’s really a lot of fun! You can sit or stand - or dance! :)
Also, we need volunteers to help us go door-to-door in his district handing out info cards. You don’t have to speak if you are uncomfortable with that (except “hello” would be good…lol!) Again we can try to pair you with someone experienced—- just lemmee know a good day/time for you.
Tomorrow (Saturday, July 7th) we’ll be doing a sign wave in Cobb along Hwy. 92 in the morning, and then going door-to-door in the afternoon. Here’s the official schedule (join us for one or both of these shifts - and lunch!):
Sign Waving and Canvassing, Saturday, July 7th, 8 a.m. to noon and/or 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
• As we did last Saturday, this coming Saturday we will meet at 8 a.m. for sign waving the first half of the day, then we will all enjoy lunch together, followed by canvassing neighborhoods. You can come for the whole day, or choose the morning or afternoon to help out, depending upon your schedule. Details to follow on where we will meet this time and where we will wave.
• If you have some extra free time during the week, we can use some door-to-door canvassing in the evenings. It works best with a group of two or three people. We will provide you with campaign cards and a targeted voter list by neighborhood.
There is also a neighborhood meet and greet next week which would be a good event for volunteers to attend. The neighborhood event begins at 7 p.m. and is generally over by 8:30 p.m.
• July 10th at the home of Eric and Sharon Strevel, 5157 Shotwell St., Woodstock, GA 30188
Thanks & God bless ya’ll!

How important is prayer and fasting?
How much more effective can prayer and fasting be when it is accompanied with action? More than you can imagine. I believe that prayer and fasting are necessary, but laws typically change when we reach out to our representatives to change them. It has been thirty five years since Roe vs Wade, and 50 million Americans have been murdered in the womb. It’s time to end this, and God gave us voices and fingers for a reason. We can call and email/write/fax our representatives and let them know how we feel.
For those of you who are really into prayer and fasting, join the monthly Prayer Pivot every first Friday at PrayerPivot.com. Then, if you would like to take action, join the Monthly Call for Life on the same day at MonthlyCallForLife.com. Then, get out to your local abortion mill on the first Saturday following the first Friday.
It’s not just abortion we need to pray and take action with. People are encouraged to pray and fast for all topics for 24 hours around the world. Here are some of the other issues that need attention:
Minnesota and our Federal Government are pursuing the forced extraction of DNA from all newly born people in America. This information will be used in many ways, such as screening for health “defects”, such as Down Syndrome. We all know what happens to 90% of the Down Syndrome children. They are with God because of their extermination. There is also talk of identifying “criminal” DNA, or other psychological defects. What do we think they will do to people who are found to be “defective”?
One of the things the bill will provide is “`(D) the availability of Federal funding for newborn and child screening for heritable disorders including grants authorized under the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act of 2007; and `(E) other relevant information as determined appropriate by the Secretary.”
People fly to America from around the world to kill their daughters. It is illegal in China, punishable by death there, and also illegal in India to scan for the presence of a female in the womb in order to kill her. Not so in America. Having an unwanted daughter? Head to your local murder mill and get rid of the little inconvenience.
—Abortion or Pre-natal murder—
Obvious to us
Albert Mohler points to this article by a pro-evolution left-winger at the Washington Post from last year about this topic
As Albert Mohler says, “We need a set of rules and policies in force right now—before a mouse really does come up and ask for a cookie.”
—In vitro fertilization—
Human Life International pointed out today that “An astonishing 100,000 IVF pregnancy attempts are made annually in the United States alone, usually involving more than one embryo. The vast majority of such babies do not survive the unnatural thawing and implantation procedure. Currently in the USA 500,000 tiny children are in freezers awaiting eventual use, and 50,000 more join them each year. In Croatia, HLI’s Dr. Antun Lisec claims that more babies die from the
“fertility industry” than by surgical abortion.”
Not only that, but many of the IVF procedures result in “multiples”, more than 1 baby as a result of implantation. When there are more than 2, a procedure known as selective reduction is recommended. Selective reduction is a fancy word that means kill. So if there are five babies, 3 are recommend for extermination, so as to increase the viability of the other two. “What will happen to the other three?” is a question expectant mothers and fathers ask. The answer given? “They will be absorbed by the body”.
These are some examples of what I believe we have to pray and fast for every month. There are many others. Because the culture of death has been in power for so long, it will take determined action to stop them and turn the tide.
Yes, prayer is important, but action is too. Without action, the culture of death will continue its murderous rampage around the world. 10s of millions of people are killed by abortion alone globally every year. The scientific community is killing just as many or more.
United we stand - Divided they die - Pass it on

Pray for Anonymous Girl and Her Unborn Child in Pennsylvania
Date: January 19, 2011
Please storm heaven for this prayer request! Thank you. Please pray for a 22 year old girl who is contemplating an abortion. She is 20 weeks along (5 months) and has an appointment scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia. She already has a 2 year old little girl that she is raising on her own.
I have tried to convince her that there are hundreds of caring people in this area who would be willing to help her and that things can and will get better for her. I’m hoping to bring her to Mary’s Shelter/home in Reading tomorrow for a visit and hopefully an interview. She is in great emotional pain. Her parents were both in trouble with the law and as a result she has been in the foster care system since she was a child.. Unfortunately it failed her. She has been abused both physically and sexually. The relationship she is now is also an abusive one. The cycle is hard to break I imagine. Unfortunately her circumstances haven’t left her with the confidence to even place her child up for adoption. We spoke about open adoption and the ability she would have to choose the parents of this child, interview them, and be a part of the baby’s life if she so chose the adoption option.
The good news is the last foster home she was in was a good experience and they saw that she finished her high school education and even began taking some college classes.
Please pray that she embraces Mary’s Shelter as well as the child growing in her womb. Storm heaven.

From Inside the Womb: Veterans’ Day—In Tribute to Those Who Fight for our Freedom
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
Veterans’ Day—In Tribute to Those Who Fight for our Freedom:
Memorial Day Concert America, From the Inside—to Dad . . .
Trumpets sound, “Taps” is played.
The flag must wave, though I cannot see.
But thrills I do feel in Mommy’s self; her joy comes through to me.
Hymns of country chorused strong, stories brave I hear.
Courage, battles high-extolled, muffle on my ear.
Love of country seems to be the marching battle song;
Do I detect the rhythmed stomp of boots made battle-strong?
The crowd outside does loudly cheer for heroes great it seems,
Songs of love and sacrifice inspire more patriots’ dreams.
But now, dear Daddy, as truth is known,
You’ll urge my Mommy’s choice.
And soon I’ll know - I’ll never speak of country with my voice.
I’ll never raise my childish hand in proud and pure salute;
Or serenade America with drums or pipes and flute.
I’ll never hail the passing flag from high upon your shoulder.
And my question now to you my dad: Could I have been a soldier?
Dad, would I have been a soldier?
Topics: Pray that fathers of the unplanned unborn will see the truth about abortion and that their hearts will turn to their children and that they will support the babies’ mothers and will help bring up their offspring instead of abandoning them through abortion.

Urgent prayer needed for mother and baby. Thank you for praying.
Date: October 18, 2010
From Mary in Iowa and Gail in Kansas
Requested by: Liliana
Prayer Request for:
Liliana, her unborn baby, husband and children
Please pray for Liliana who is expecting her 7th child. Don’t know her present condition but she has a life threatening placenta condition and has adamantly refused doctor’s advice to abort. She has been in the hospital for several ...weeks far away from her husband and young children. They are devout Catholics and her children pray their rosary every night. They are waiting for the baby to be old enough to induce labor. I know she is suffering greatly at the thought of leaving her children without their mother.I will give you update as soon as I find out what’s going on.Thank you.
I am doing ok. I am now 29 weeks pregnant and have by the mercy of God not had a bleeding episode. The baby is healthy and can survive without complications if he had to be born now. I have 6 weeks left before my surgery. The surgery is the scary part which will determine everything. Doctors will not know how bad it is until they open me up. It can be a miracle or a disaster, so please pray that it turns out to be a miracle. Surgery is December 1. I miss my family terribly. My husband and the kids visit once a week and it’s been very hard to be apart. I pray everyday that God will have mercy and allow me to go home to them. Thank you all for your prayers and please remember me on December 1st.
