Philippians 4:12 Thought/Prayer: Time, on Vacation. Topics: 2 at end.
When on vacation, there is often time to engage in contemplation, depending upon the type of vacation, of course. If we are parents with grade-school kids or toddlers, the only time for ourselves and our thoughts may be at the end of an exhausting (yet good) day of carrying out plans for the ages of the children. But if we are past that stage of life and can go vacationing with other adults or just a spouse, there’s that wonderful commodity available: time.
It makes sense that in our ordinary daily lives, there may not be time for extensive in-depth seeking of the Lord or contemplating our lives and His part in them (or our part in His life in ours). But how lovely it is to find space and time for these activities. But there is one aspect of this that can be overlooked. Time to pray for the concerns of other.
Many of us remember the times we have told someone we would pray for them at a certain time or about a certain problem . . . and ten days later something comes up about it and . . . oh, I forgot to pray! Well, perhaps when we are on vacation, we can commit to praying for others as part of our total outlook for the trip. It would be wonderful to not see this as a “task†to mark off our list of things to do. Maybe we can see it as an offering from our freedom from duty and make it a gift to ourselves and others – a gift to ourselves because we have served the Lord and others – and a gift to others because we have served them through prayer. We have a great God who answers. Prayer is a great gift.
Lord, help us to consider times when we can gift others with the gift of prayer. Help us to find the time or to be willing to give up time, even when on vacation, to serve others including those in heavy struggles of LIFE decisions.
Topics: Pray for the willingness to give up time for prayer, especially prayer for others.
