§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

2 Peter 3:1-5 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Sincere Minds.  Topics:  2 at end.

“This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you; that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:  knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.’ For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God; . . . ”  (WEB)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

The two words to pull out of this scripture today are:  “sincere mind.”  Just two little words, but could they not impact us mightily?  We talk about sincerity; we sometimes (or sometimes we used to) sign written letters, “Sincerely, . . .”  There have been love songs about being sincere.  It has to do with being genuine and honest.  Now would we sign a letter, “Dishonestly yours”?  Hardly.

Maybe we need to think about how we use this word.  Peter wrote these letters to the churches of believers in Asia Minor.  He says, in this scripture, that he is stirring up their sincere minds.  And how does he do this? “ . . . by reminding you that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior . . .”  There must be a connection he is making between the scriptures and the possession of a sincere mind.

Well, when we consider this, it can very well make sense.  If we are in the Word of God and are pondering what the prophets and apostles wrote or said, we are putting into our minds, Truth.  And what could be more “sincere” than truth?  Well, nothing.  And, well, that’s it.  We fill our minds with the Truth.  We have sincere minds.

IIt sounds simple.  However, in our condition as sinners, we will not always be sincere no matter how much truth we put into our minds and our lives.  But does this mean we do not attempt to have sincere minds?  Not at all.  As much as we can, we fill our hearts and minds with truth; spiritual truth.  This is our part.  Get busy in the scriptures, and we will be paying attention, as the scripture says, remembering “ . . . the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior . . . ”  We read prophets’ words in the Bible.  We see what the apostles did and what they wrote and spoke, in the New Testament.  It doesn’t get any clearer than that.

And then, thank You, Lord, that when we do these things and fill ourselves with sincere minds, we will think more clearly when it comes to helping others struggling in LIFE crises.  And we will be sincere about it.

Topics:  Pray for a sincere mind, but don’t forget to work toward it through the Bible and its record of the prophets and apostles.
