2 Samuel 23:1-4 (Pt. 4)  Thought/Prayer:  Word, On My Tongue.  Topics:  2 at end.

From David’s Last Song:
“Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse says, the man who was raised on high says, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel:
’The Spirit of Yahweh spoke by me. His word was on my tongue.
The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,
shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the tender grass springs out of the earth, through clear shining after rain.’” WBS (Read this scripture and more at

Help us, Lord, to always have the Word of God on our tongues, as is described here.  The Psalmist (David) says that God spoke to him, and that God’s word was on his tongue.  Let us be that way!  Let us all seek to be so close to God that His word is right there “on the tip of my tongue,” as the phrase goes.  In fact, let His word be all over our tongues, not just on the tip.

But, having words on the tip of our tongue, just ready to say them, can be advantageous when thinking of God, also.  Is there a special Bible verse that you almost always know when you think of the reference or a couple of words in some way?  Or is there a book of the Bible that has several favorite topics or ways of saying things that comes to you now and again?  Really, I suppose it is too bad when we can’t think of a thing or have anything ready on our tongue concerning spiritual matters.  Maybe it’s sort of like lacking good enrichment foods for the tongue.

However we look at having Bible words ready to be spoken, it cannot help but be a good thing.  We are told to always be ready to make a defense to others, concerning our faith (I Peter 3:15).  So how do we get to having Biblical words at the ready?  We read our Bibles and we memorize words, and we meditate on them.  Not that God can’t just put “words in our mouths” directly from Him, without our actually knowing them, but the tried and true is to read them, memorize them.

Thank you, Lord, for giving us Your words, a very kind-hearted thing to do for us.  Help us to really know them.  Help us to always have them ready to share.  Help us to know the right ones to say for someone in a struggle.  Help us to know what to say to women considering abortion – we want words to them to be straight from Your mouth, into ours, and out to the women.

Topics:  Pray for commitment to learn God’s word so it is always ready to speak.
