2 Thessalonians 3:5 (Pt. 3) Thought/Prayer: Direct Their Hearts. Topics: 2 at end.
“May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of Christ.” (WEB) (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)
Here, the prayer of the apostle Paul is that God direct the hearts of the Thessalonian believers into the love of God. Now, this is just a great example of God’s potential for direct involvement in human life. Paul wants these fellow believers to know and understand the love that God has for them. And isn’t it interesting that Paul asks for their hearts to be shown the way into the love of God? Their hearts – Not their minds or will or intellect.
We might say, of course . . . it is the heart that deals in love, in loving. True. The heart is the main symbol of love around the world. But, there must certainly be some involvement of the intellect – and certainly the will – when it comes to choosing a spouse. And yet: It is the hearts’ attraction between two individuals that is usually the beginning of a relationship that can lead to the marriage commitment.
In this scripture, Paul asks God that the hearts be directed into the love of God. We view the heart as the center of love. And in the Bible, the heart is the receptacle for the love of God through the Holy Spirit.
Romans 5:5: “. . . and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (WEB)
In I Chronicles 28:9, King David is speaking to his son Solomon: “And you, Solomon my son, know you the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off for ever.” (AKJV)
Yes, it is the heart that symbolizes love, in general – and the love of God. And when Paul asks God to direct the Thessalonians’ hearts into the love of God, he is asking no small thing. We ask no small thing when we pray for someone to come to know Jesus the Lord as Savior. It is a big thing, this asking for God’s love to be poured into someone’s heart.
His love is poured into the hearts (those tiny, pulsating little heart) of babies in the womb. Let us pray that those hearts will grow to live within children on Earth, who will have opportunity to know God through Jesus, as God’s love is directed into their hearts.
Topics: Pray for the hearts of the preborn. Pray that they will be beating-healthy and may beat millions of millions of times on Earth as lives are lived out through earthly years.
