§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

2 Timothy 1:13,14 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Patterns.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Hold the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, guard through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”  (WEB)  Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com

Many versions of verse 13 used the word “pattern” when speaking of the words Paul said to Timothy.  Hold the pattern.  It seems an interesting word choice.  What could the pattern of sound words mean?

We can go with a few ideas.  It might mean the way in which Paul presented His words regarding the soundness of them.  Maybe there was a definite sequence as he presented.  Or maybe he could have used a mnemonic device to help the hearers remember what he said.  Mnemonics use such things as tunes or repetitions, etc., to help people remember.  Now it is doubtful that Paul was singing his words to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” but perhaps he patterned what he said with reminder phrases. (Two translations, Darby Bible Translation and Weymouth New Testament, use the words “outline” instead of pattern.)

We don’t know, of course, but the point is that Timothy (and we today) was to hold the words in faith and love in Christ Jesus.  And the Holy Spirit can guard them in our hearts.  And, of course, when we live by the Bible’s words, they influence the pattern of our lives.  Do we cut right, here . . . and go do this activity?  Or do we cut left, there . . . and do this other activity?  When we have the Bible’s words kept safe in our hearts and lives, we eventually see an illuminated pathway for our steps that then, eventually, leads us to a pattern of service.  On any given day, we may see only a cut here or a cut there in God’s pattern for us; but He sees the entire piece of cloth of our lives and lays out our patterns for each of us.

Patterns:  Of words or of lives.  The Holy Spirit is involved in it all.  Thank You, Lord, for spelling this out for us in this scripture, so that we may feel confident when helping in the pro-life cause, that we have had guarded within us all the words and pathways we need to bring about change for LIFE on Earth.

Topics:  Thank God for the Guardian of our hearts and God’s words within, the Holy Spirit.
