Luke 1:80   Thought/Prayer:  Pinking-Up.  Topics:  2 at end.

“The child was growing, and becoming strong in spirit, and was in the desert until the day of his public appearance to Israel.  (WEB) (Read this scripture and more at

Sedum plants grow by our home.  They are about 15” tall, probably.  They start growing upwards in late summer, and the flowers are round and sort of bushy at the top of the stems. The flowers begin as a pale green color.

But gradually, as they grow, the pale green begins to turn a light pink.  And gradually this pale pink begins to intensify into a deeper pink.  Every day one wonders at how much more they deepen in pink.

We might call it “pinking-up.”

So maybe ones gets to thinking how the term “pinking up” is used on occasion.  One meaning regards someone’s skin going from an unhealthy color to a normal skin tone.  We might say that someone in the hospital had skin that “pinked up” as things within his or her body were getting better.

Newborn babies may have a pink aspect to their skin.  They’re already pinked up!

But what can this have to do with our spiritual look?  The scripture above has to do with John the Baptist as a child growing up.  He grew and “was becoming strong in spirit.”  Perhaps we could say that his spiritual health was growing as a healthy color.  And perhaps he had a ruddy complexion from a lot of time outdoors.

Well, if we are spiritually healthy, we might say that we are pinked-up.  And if we are standing against abortion and for LIFE – well, could we say that we’re on the pinky patrol of all little babies (even their littlest fingers are “pinkies”)?  (Now isn’t that just appropriate for this “lighter” writing concerning standing up for LIFE?)

Yes, we need to keep our spiritual complexions maintaining a healthy look.  Of course, in our physical bodies, there are reasons that sometimes we do not have our natural healthy color in our faces.  And we pray for the Lord to help us with His healing hands.

But for now, Lord, we pray that You will convict mothers and fathers not wanting a pregnancy that is already in process . . . convict them to perhaps think of the beautiful skin of a baby.  And lead them to let their babies live, pinked up like a flower.

Topics:  Pray for those dealing with unplanned pregnancies, to be able to think positively about it and to choose to hold their newborn with those little pinkies. . . . tight and close.
