Colossians 2:1-3 (Pt. 2) Thought /Prayer: Fullness of Understanding. Topics:  2 at end.

Built Up in Christ
For I would have you know, what manner of care I have for you and for them that are at Laodicea, and whosoever have not seen my face in the flesh:  That their hearts may be comforted, being instructed in charity, and unto all riches of fulness of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus:  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  (DRB)  Read this scripture and more at

There is a one phrase here, in the apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians in the town of Colossae, that leads into the incredible statement about the treasures that are in Christ Jesus.  He speaks of the Christians having “all riches of fulness of understanding.”  This fullness then leads to the knowledge of the mystery and of the treasures in Jesus.  But it is a special type of richness.

This richness has to do with understanding the things of God.  And, indeed, when we do come to faith in Jesus Christ, we have available to us all of the wisdom and knowledge that lead us to understanding of His ways and His desires for our human lives.  And as we learn more and more of this, our lives become fuller and fuller, even unto fulness, as described here.

We know that Christians have sin.  And we know that some sin in the areas of life that can lead to unplanned pregnancy.  But when the expectant mother (and the baby’s father) are Christians, they have a different basis from which to consider the coming child.  They have available to themselves God’s fullness of understanding.

Not that this is ever easy!  But, compared to a young women who does not know Jesus as Savior, and who is newly pregnant because of poor decisions, there is just much more foundation from which to come to welcome this child.  If Jesus Christ is in such a woman’s life, then she has the resources to come to realize how important this baby’s life is; and she has the resources of prayer, God’s Word, and the love and counsel of other Christians to help her along, whether the father is involved or not.

Lord, we pray for such women, many of them quite young.  And we especially pray for such women who do not know You as Savior, that You will convince them and comfort them and guide them into the right choice regarding their unborn children.

Topics:  Pray for God to reveal Himself to struggling women carrying unwanted babies, that they may receive His hope.
