Colossians 2:1-3   Thought/Prayer:  Mystery and Treasures.  Topics:  2 at end.

Built Up in Christ
“For I would have you know, what manner of care I have for you and for them that are at Laodicea, and whosoever have not seen my face in the flesh:  That their hearts may be comforted, being instructed in charity, and unto all riches of fulness of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus:  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  (DRB)  Read this scripture and more at

This scripture may have, for some, all the markings of a well-written story with lots of images that bring up thoughts of beauty and perhaps even a bit of intrigue.  Hidden treasure!  But not of rubies and pearls.  No, something far better:  wisdom and knowledge.  (Proverbs 8:11—“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”  (AKJV)

This wisdom is “of the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus: . . .”!  So not only is this a mystery:  It’s huge.  Since God the Father and Christ Jesus cannot be surpassed in knowledge, power, or presence – well, there can be no greater mystery.  It’s the biggest one of the cosmos.

But what does this intriguing passage mean?  It all seems so big.  And hidden treasure that is better than rubies.  Hmmm.  Where are these treasures hidden?  We are told:  In Christ Jesus.

And it is right here that these large words of mystery are brought into our realm of understanding.  And why might we say this?  Because we know Jesus.  He is the image of the invisible God; God made visible.  He contains all the hidden treasure of wisdom and knowledge (way beyond the Earth and its created singularity), and yet we know Him (as having spent time on Earth in His own human singularity).  John 1:14 tells us that He became flesh and lived with us.  He became like us.

Well, this mystery of treasure comes down to our size, and it’s for everyone on our planet, including families that struggle with LIFE issues that are so overwhelming.  Lord, help us to remember to pray for them and for those who are so greatly concerned about them and their family-member situations.  We pray, Lord, that just our prayers for the unknown struggling folks out there will help lead them to Jesus, the One in Whom is hidden all the wisdom and knowledge of God.

Topics:  Praise God for Jesus and that He is God’s wisdom and that He loved us people enough to become like us.  Pray for families in LIFE crises to be able to come to Him.
