Eph. 1:9,10 Thought/Prayer: The Mystery of His Will. Topics: 2 at end.
“For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fulness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” RSV [Scripture quotations are from] Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright © 1946, 1952, and 1971 National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. A mystery has something about it that is unknown, hidden . . .well, “mysterious.” Its meaning cannot be seen readily upon first examination, and the meaning may be very difficult to ferret out even over long expanses of time. Even in the Bible, mysteries are mentioned in connection with our Lord.
Col. 1:27—“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: . . .” Yes, Christ being in us as the Hope of glory is a mystery. How he comes to indwell us through faith is non-understandable, humanly speaking – but we glory in it.
The creation of human life is certainly a mystery. We know the way it happens, physically speaking, but where the first spark came from is only God and only known by God who has never “not been.” God has always “been.”
We don’t know why most of us are able to conceive offspring while others are not. That in itself is an unknown. But God has allowed adoption, even to saying that we as Christians are adopted persons. Gal. 4:4,5—“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children.” RSV Now, isn’t that a Godly elevation of adoption?
So mysteries of His will remain regarding our Lord and His plans for us. But let us today praise Him for his un-knowableness that in part defines Him as God. Lord, let us today understand and glory in the mysteries of birth, of your Son, and of adoption as you created it. And thank you.
•Topics: Pray that God will convict mothers carrying surprise children that adoption is created and sanctioned from the heart of God and that it can be a good choice for families.
