Ephesians 2:17-22 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Fitted, Together.  Topics:  2 at end.

“He came and preached peace to you who were far off and to those who were near. For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
A Temple in the Lord
So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone; in whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.”  (WEB)  (Read this scripture and more at

This passage speaks of believers being part of a household of God, members of a family.  And this family lives in a “house” that is founded on the apostles and prophets.  The prophets in the Old Testament foretold of the coming of Christ.  The apostles who were with Jesus during His earthly time continue the witness to Him as being the fulfillment of the Old-Testament prophetic writings and speaking forth.

But even yet, Christ Jesus is the chief cornerstone of the house of faith; and with Him in that position, as believers “fit” together, the edifice becomes “a holy temple in the Lord.”  Isn’t this something!  Just by believing, and just by coming together as one in Christ, we individual persons can become a part of a structure of faith . . . a temple even!

Temples centuries back were often built to honor various gods, such as were believed in of Greek and Roman times.  The Jewish Temple in Jerusalem was created as a holy center for worship; and indeed, the Ark of the Covenant was housed there, the place where God communed with the Israelites from above the mercy seat (the gold lid with cherubim at either end) (Exodus 25:22).  So we can see that the Temple was of great importance for worship and learning God’s will for the people.

So if Christians are, together, to be a temple through faith, should we not learn to get along with one another?  But why do I say “learn” to get along?  Well, it’s because we are human, and human beings tend to . . . differ . . . take on different viewpoints . . . argue, even . . .

Well, it is true that the temple we build may have parts that grate against other parts.  But . . . we are to be fitted together.  And when we truly seek to become a temple of worship in our deeds on Earth, God will smooth out the rough parts so we can fit up close to our brethren.  But we must let Him, of course.

Is this not part of what this scripture tells us?  Christ our Cornerstone will help build us into a temple unto Him.  His foundation stone will help us even out all the rough places.  Lord, help us to do this.  Please help us, even in pro-life work, to want to get long with each other no matter our personalities and viewpoints about ways to do things.  Please help us center off of You so we are leveled and can contribute to a great faith place of holy structure.

Topics:  Pray for willingness to be smoothed out with one another so our lives’ buildings will be one of worship such as the Temple always was.
