Ephesians 3:14-19 (Pt. 3)  Thought/Prayer:  Knowledge-Surpassing Love.  Topics:  2 at end.

Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians
For this reason, on bended knee I beseech the Father, from whom the whole family in Heaven and on earth derives its name,  to grant you—in accordance with the wealth of His glorious perfections—to be strengthened by His Spirit with power penetrating to your inmost being. I pray that Christ may make His home in your hearts through your faith; so that having your roots deep and your foundations strong, in love, you may become mighty to grasp the idea, as it is grasped by all God’s people, of the breadth and length, the height and depth— yes, to attain to a knowledge of the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, so that you may be made complete in accordance with God’s own standard of completeness.”  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at

The words here speak to the attainment of the “knowledge of the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ . . . “ in order that we may be made complete in God.  Our minds cannot take in this knowledge-surpassing love of Christ.  It is, as it says here, beyond knowledge.  It is not understood in the mind, as knowledge, although we are to grow in the knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 3:18).  But His love:  Nothing we can really truly understand.  But ours to have through the love that it is.

This is all so that we may be made complete . . . but in accordance with God’s standard of completeness.  This also is something we cannot really understand; but we accept that it is possible for us to be made such.  We attain to the knowledge of Christ’s love; we are made complete, as God completes us to His desired outcome.

This may seem to be too much for our human lives, our human-ness.  But God is not trying to discourage us here.  He is telling us through Paul’s letter to the Ephesians that there is something so great and so big that can be ours.  Even though it is beyond our understanding, it is ours as believers.  His love can be “grasped” by all of us, even its breadth and length and height and depth.  This covers it all – in all directions.  And at the center is us:  with our Lord.

Lord, we cherish these words and want to claim them for those who do not know You.  For families in stresses over members in big trouble with LIFE issues; for families who know You but do not know where to turn; for those who do not know You . . . help them know where to turn, and that is to You.  They probably don’t know the words of this scripture.  But, Lord, You can reveal Yourself to them in whatever way they understand.

Then their families can make the decisions needed, based on this love of Yours that they do not understand.  But that You do.

Topics:  Pray for believers to understand how much this love has to do with their lives.  Pray for non-believers to come to know it, especially when dealing with LIFE issues.
