§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Ephesians 4:14-15   Thought/Prayer:  This Truth-in-Charity Thing.  Topics:  2 at end.

“That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive; But doing the truth in charity, we may in all things grow up in him who is the head, even Christ: . . .  DRA (Read this scripture and more at

Surely at times, speaking the truth in love may be one of the most difficult tasks we face.  This version of the scripture says “doing the truth in charity,” as opposed to a more familiar phrase, “speaking the truth in love,” and maybe we can appreciate this choice of the word “charity.”  Charity usually is thought of in terms of giving to someone in need or having a feeling of compassion, perhaps a positive thing when sharing truth.

Or charity can be an attitude toward others, one of acceptance or a lack of judgment.  So if one speaks truth in charity, we might think of a gentle approach to the truth, but one that still does not ignore the question of honesty.

Why is this so hard to do?  Why do we shy away from speaking truth in a charitable way?  Is it the truth or the speaking in love that is so difficult?  I think most people would say, “Both.”

The truth can be brutal in some situations, brutal but needed.  And, regarding the manner in which truth is spoken, it can sometimes be difficult to adopt an attitude of charity or love because of the circumstances leading up to a need for truth’s honesty.  We may be highly emotionally charged over some event or attitude.  We may need to tell someone they need a difficult change in their life.  This is terribly hard!

And so we pray for guidance about this truth . . . in love . . . in honesty . . . thing.  And we search for guidance in the Bible.  We will be directed in this issue if we are willing to take the time to pray and study.  Sometimes it seems we are short on time to “get something said.”  And sometimes we really are short on time.  But at other times, we realize that we do not have to speak our truth right away; sometimes later can be better, better-said.

Lord, help us to desire this needed trait in our lives.  Help us to want to speak truth in love.  Help us to do this in LIFE battles.  Help us to lovingly speak Your truth and help it to be in love, Your love.

Topics:  Pray to be able to always speak truth with a charitable attitude:  But speak it.
