Ephesians 6:13 Thought/Prayer:  A Standing Army.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Why take to you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at

A standing army.  What is it?  Well, it is an army of paid individuals who are part of it during peace or war.  It is not an army on call just when war breaks out here or there.  It is always available.  And ready.

Christians are part of a standing army.  Over centuries. there are billions of those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation and have fought for Him (often against great odds and loss of life) and His message of repentance and faith leading to salvation.  You see, this army, although not paid in earthly monies, is spiritual and is “paid” through the satisfaction of knowing we are advancing the greatest cause in the universe, as we stand ready to do battle.  We battle against the forces of evil.

We take on the “whole armor” of God.  The battle pieces we wear are described in this passage from Ephesians and includes:

A belt (of truth)
A breastplate (righteousness)
A pair of shoes (of readiness)
A shield (faith)
A helmet (salvation)
A sword (of the Spirit . . . God’s Word)

In physical life, a soldier puts on all of his or her armor when battle is at hand.  But this spiritual army is never without these pieces of armor.  So God’s army truly stands always ready, and since it is beyond the realm of the physical, we are ready even when illness strikes or accidents take us temporarily out of the run of life.  The Holy Spirit is still at work, using us in unknown ways.  We’re not down-and-out, although we may be down-yet-standing.

When we do battle with the forces that negate the worth of human life, advocating premature planned death in the womb or the killing of those who will be born with handicaps, we are thankful to always be ready and armed.  However, it is up to us to enhance our battle skills by enforcing ourselves with the Bible and prayer.  We thusly enhance our armor in this standing army.

Lord, thank You for the privilege of serving as enlisted folks in Your spiritual army.  Help us to be effective with the weapons we have from You, to battle against all planned premature death in our world.

Topics:  Pray to use wisely the armaments that God has given us to stand firm in His army eternal.
