Genesis 1:31, 2:1 (Pt. 3)  Thought/Prayer: Thoughts of the Deep on Christmas Eve. Topics:  2 at end.

“And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.  And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.”  DRB (Read these scriptures and more at

Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem on what might be deemed the eve of the first Christmas morning.  On our Christmas eves, the “deep” of meaning can be a catalyst for pondering many things.  By the “deep,” we might say that we mean the quiet night—and dark—that some of us get to experience when we live in cold climates at Christmas time.  But even in more outdoors settings, does not the eve of Christmas Day bring thoughts of God and the meaning of our lives?  This can be very hopeful time or a time of regret and self-recrimination if life has not gone the best way for us since the last Christmas Eve.

But there is always hope on Christmas Eve, the night that heralds the celebration of the coming of the Christ as a baby.  Even though we may not review the year since the last Christmas with smiles of acceptance regarding our lives, the Christ never changes, and He came to help all of us who life less than perfect lives, year to year.  That is each and every one of us human beings.  And not matter the climate, Christmas Eve can be hopeful for any and all of us.  The “deep” of Christmas is not our lives, but that of the Savior.

Lord, on this night of anticipation of Christmas Day, help us to count blessings and not failures.  Help us to focus on You and not on ourselves and our lives.  It’s You, Lord, the deep meaning of Christmas Eve.  Help us never to forget.

Topics:  Praise God for the meaning of Christmas Eve and Christmas and thank Him for always being there in our lives, no matter our failures, and in the lives of those whose failures may include issues regarding LIFE decisions.
