I Chronicles 12:33, 36   Thought/Prayer:  LIFE Battle Prep.  Topics:  2 at end.

33:“Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double heart.”

36: “Regarding the half tribe tribe of Manasseh, “with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, . . .”  (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at

Yes, we who battle must have instruments of war.  My how they have changed over the centuries, from bucklers and shields and swords to missiles, and drones overhead flown from afar.  But on the football field, the instrument is . . . a pointed-at-both-ends ball.  It’s a ball that does not even bounce predictably, as compared to a totally round bouncy ball.

So this is the football teams’ instrument of battle.  Well, sort of.  We play with the ball.  But we all know that in football, it is strategy that is the central “instrument of war.”  Strategy, yes, plus training and practice to carry out well all strategies.

Of course, protection of the players enters into the fray – all of the defensive items that are donned with the team uniform including shoulder pads, knee pads, socks, cleats and more – and above all, a sturdy helmet.  These could be considered defensive instruments of battle.  Because of these protective accouterments, a football “soldier” feels free to dive (sometimes literally) into the fracus full-force, knowing there is at least basic protection against injury.

When we battle for life, we need strategy, both offensive and defensive.  We also need protection (through prayer, Bible reading and the support of the like-minded).  And we need to “carry the ball.”  It is sometimes carrying the ball that gets us really into battles.  There are so many who disagree with us about the sanctity of human life and that it is God-created.  There are so many who consider other aspects of life to be more important than the life of the human baby in the womb.

Lord, as we take on the battle for the life of the preborn, help us to know how to strategize and what to wear for the best offense and defense.  And, really, Lord . . . help us to carry the ball smartly, fast and well!
