§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

I Samuel 10:24-26 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Shortest Day/Longest Night.  Topics:  2 at end.

“And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.  Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.”  KJV http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)

My birthday is on the shortest day of the year.  It may seem strange, but I like my birth date because I like winter better than summer (I’m in the northern hemisphere), cold better than heat.  Yes, there are a few of us around who are crazy like this.  But when I read that the memorial tribute for the homeless who have died in our city is on or near my birthday, I have another consideration.  The memorial begun by three groups in support of the homeless is planned to be at this time because of an opposite aspect to this day:  it is the longest night of the year.  What may a homeless person dread the most, especially in the dark and cold?  Long nights.

Homelessness for the chronic homeless is surely a long, dark night.  Even for a family with children, the night may loom large in winter.  We have shelters and a bowl of soup and a bed.  It’s not like home, but at least it is somewhere to fight against the long hours of winter’s nights.  Thank you to all who work very hard to provide these comforts – no, necessities – to those without homes.

I knew a beautiful lady, angel-like in appearance, who would take blankets and sandwiches to the homeless living under bridges.  How blessed the recipients of her love and care must have been, especially in the ice of winter.

Lord, help us to remember the shortest day of the year, not for birthdays but for the homeless and the longest night.  The worth of these people calls to us to remember them.  Created LIFE is always of worth; it comes from Your hand.  Lord, we don’t understand why people end up homeless, but we do understand their importance.  Help us to pray for them.  Help us to think of them as having a home like Saul, where his friends followed him, and Your care.

Topics:  Pray for the homeless who are the nearest to where you live.
