I Thessalonians 3:7,8 -  Comfort in Choices.

Thought/Prayer: Topics:  2 at end.

“Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.”

Today I’m including the words, the point of view, of a volunteer at Choices Medical Clinic in Wichita, KS, where Rosa and her family received support and comfort through the perinatal hospice in the birth of Aiden, born with anencephaly, wherein a large portion of the brain is incomplete.

“Greetings from Choices Medical Clinic:
Late this summer a young mother came to Choices after receiving the news that her unborn baby had a severe anomaly that would take his life – possibly before he was born.  One of the specialists who made the diagnosis urged her to abort the child immediately.  As the family was contemplating what to do, someone told them about an alternative to abortion in cases like this – the perinatal hospice support available at our clinic.  This mother and her family came to Choices and the journey began.

Several weeks ago, this mother went into labor.  Our team packed up and headed to the town where she would deliver her little one.  We were going to support her and her family emotionally, physically and spiritually during this very difficult time.

The next evening, the mother delivered a 2 lb. 1 oz. baby who lived for 51 minutes.  The baby had a severe anomaly, but the parents tenderly held him and adored him – blind to the lethal defect that would soon take his little life.  Their unconditional love for this child profoundly touched everyone in the room.

We watched this touching scene unfold through our tears.  It now stands in our hearts and minds as a striking reminder of an even more powerful love poured out for us – “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

As this young couple was experiencing a deeper grief and sadness than many twice their age have known, the Lord was also at work faithfully demonstrating His strong love to them.

Late that evening, the baby’s mother wrote:
‘Today was a bittersweet day… Today has changed my life forever.  My baby’s father found God today.  And I think that is one of the main reasons our baby was born.  To help his parents realize there IS a God and He is oh so amazing.  I am truly touched by today and not a day will go by from now on I won’t think of this day.’

As our hospice team returned to Wichita, we were completely amazed at the work of our Savior who “comforts all who mourn…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of despair.”

We are so grateful for your interest in the ministry at Choices.  We wish you the Lord’s richest blessings.

Lord, we thank you today for those who serve at Choices Medical Clinic and those like it.  Thank you for the souls saved there as well as babies and families.  We praise you.
