I Timothy 2:1,2 (Pt. 3) Thought/Prayer: Kings and Authorities.Topics: 2@end.

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at

In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, the king had troubling dreams.  Then it came about that in the night, God gave Daniel a vision with the meaning of the dreams.

Daniel 2:19-22 “Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.”  (AKJV)

So when we pray for the candidates for governing offices today, is it helpful to consider these scriptures?  The one from I Timothy comes over 500 years after Daniel’s experience with the Chaldean king Nebuchadnezzar.  Paul, who wrote the letters to Timothy that are in the Bible, tells Timothy to intercede for those who are in authority, including kings.  Daniel certainly did this.

Daniel tells us that it is God who is in charge of kings.  Perhaps we can consider many rulers of today as a “king,” if you will, since republics and democracies do not have kings, but rather elected officials.  And, yes, God determines who will be “kings.”  He puts governmental leadership in place.

So as we pray for candidates running for elected office, do we not want them to be the best of men and women?  Yes, God oversees the governance in our world.  But perhaps it is up to Christians to pray for those who will fill those offices as a way of asking God for the best as He sees it, as He answers those prayers.

God knows who governing leaders will be.  Should we not ask Him for the best, and for those who honor LIFE?  Ask, believing.  He does answer.

Lord, help us to pray into Your will when we pray for election candidates.  Guide us in this for the sake of government at so many levels.

Topics:  Pray for those running for office, particularly that they will honor created life and God’s plans for full length of life.
