I Timothy 4:11-14 Thought/Prayer: Why Pray for Our Nation’s Schools/Curriculum?Topics: 2 & end.
“Command this and teach this. Let no one think slightingly of you because you are a young man; but in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, be an example for your fellow Christians to imitate. Till I come, bestow your attention on reading, exhortation and teaching. Do not be careless about the gifts with which you are endowed, which were conferred on you through a divine revelation when the hands of the elders were placed upon you.†(WEY) (Read these scriptures and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)
In these words from the fourth chapter of I Timothy, Paul is speaking to a young man, his son-in-the-Lord, Timothy. And here is what Paul tells Timothy about teaching: “Till I come, bestow your attention on reading, exhortation and teaching.†Yes, read, exhort, teach. Quite a combination.
But, you may say, Paul was telling Timothy to teach about the faith, about the scriptures. And most schools are not parochial, being run by a church parish and having to do with religious teaching. Most school are public and do not have as a standard the teaching of religion. Au contraire!
Still, teaching in itself is set out here as something to be accomplished. All of us who are reading this right now have had someone teach us to read. (And reading is another essence in this passage.) So, no matter whether a school is a private one teaching certain doctrines of a faith, or whether it is a general public school: teaching and reading are to be carried out. So why not pray for schools and the curriculums therein?
Those who plan curriculum in schools probably spend a lot of time and effort deciding on what is to be taught. And they should. What could matter more in an across-the-board goal for schools than to teach well-thought-out subject choices? Needful subjects that equip for practical life? No matter whether a school is private or public, students should emerge with life skills to apply for their entire futures.
Yes, we should pray for those who plan school curriculum. And in addition, when LIFE issues are considered, we should pray “extra.†We need to pray into the hearts of those planning curriculum a true respect for life and its created length and purpose. Lord, help us to know how to do this.
Topics: Pray for those who plan school curriculum around the world. Pray for God to instill values in the hearts of these men and women – values that will lead to very good LIFE decisions for students and their futures.
