§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

II Cor. 10:5 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Lead our Thoughts?!  Topics:  2 at end.

“. . . overthrowing reasonings and every high thing that lifts itself up against the knowledge of God, and leading captive every thought into the obedience of the Christ; . . .”  DBY (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)

Here might be viewed an interesting arrangement of words.  The writer to the Corinthian church speaks of commanding the control of our thought-life by capturing every thought that comes into (and goes out of) our brains.  Yes, we do need to capture our thoughts and think them toward the Lord.

But this passage, in the Darby translation, says to “lead” them captive.  “. . . and leading captive every thought . . . “  Wouldn’t we naturally think that if we are going to take something or someone captive, that we would not lead them but would perhaps come up behind them with some orchestrated plan, in a surprise surrounding of some arrangement?  But to lead our thoughts . . . Well, there are some benefits here.

Yes, we can come up behind our thoughts and surprise them . . . all of this, of course, being within our brains.  But perhaps we could see this as allowing them to occur – and THEN capturing them.

Hmmm.  If we lead our thoughts . . . maybe they never get to really organize themselves in our heads.  Squash any unwanted ones before you can think them?  Really?

Well, whatever the mechanism of leading our thoughts around, perhaps we should consider learning how to do this.  To most of us, it would be a welcome thing to know that we can order our thoughts before they are even formed.

Lord, help us to understand just what is meant in this scripture; and then help us to learn to take control over our brains and the thoughts that bombard them all day every day.  Help us to relish the positive thoughts that come our way, especially when we are struggling to help someone who is in turn struggling with their own situations of LIFE decisions, far-reaching or close by.

Topics: Pray for the wisdom to order our thought lives after Christ and to be able to prevent unwanted negative thoughts to enter and take hold in our heads.
