Isaiah 11:6   Thought/Prayer:  A Perinatal Hospice Choice.  Topics:  2 at end.

Isaiah 11:6   “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.”

Here is the November 2010 newsletter from Choices Medical Clinic in Wichita, KS, that ministers to pregnant women and their families next to the now-closed abortion clinic run by the late George Tiller.

(Perinatal has to do with circumstances at the time surrounding birth.)

“The picture of a lovely lady hangs on the wall at Choices Medical Clinic. The caption:

Betty is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and served,
but her legacy continues to bless others.

Several months ago, Betty’s daughter, Carole, called Choices to see if we knew of a perinatal hospice ministry in Texas. She had found out about Haley, a young woman in Fort Worth whose baby had been diagnosed with anencephaly. The baby was not expected to live after birth and doctors had recommended termination.

I have been serving as a hospice coordinator at Choices. The very same day that Carole called to inquire about help for Haley, I was in the Dallas area visiting friends. No perinatal hospice services were available in that metropolitan area, so I contacted the Burleson Pregnancy Center of Fort Worth where I had worked prior to moving to Wichita.

This center got in touch with Haley and she gladly accepted their offer of a free sonogram. This team had never done perinatal hospice care, but their caring staff provided a loving network for Haley as she journeyed the rest of her difficult pregnancy.

Another special source of encouragement for Haley came from Jessica, one of our recent hospice mothers. Jessica lent a sympathetic ear - because she had just walked this very same road. These two young mothers kept in close contact as Haley approached the birth of her daughter.

Little Brayley was born on August 31, weighing 5# 14oz. She lived almost seven hours. Her brief life profoundly touched her family and the staff of the pregnancy center who had supported them during this journey.

I have seen God orchestrating the details of our lives and HE truly had a hand in Haley’s life.

The Lord is using her courageous journey to inspire the creation of a perinatal hospice in the Dallas area. The Board of Directors of the Burleson Pregnancy Center has approved the development of this ministry through their center. Their staff visited Choices in early November for mentoring by our hospice team.

Can you imagine how many families may be impacted by the Lord’s grace through the founding of this ministry in the Dallas/Fort Worth area?

It has been thrilling to see God expanding the influence of Choices Medical Clinic beyond the Wichita area. We are so privileged to be a part of His amazing work.
