Isaiah 58:10   Thought/Prayer:  Afflicted.  Topics:  2 at end.

Isaiah 58:10 “When thou shalt pour out thy soul to the hungry, and shalt satisfy the afflicted soul then shall thy light rise up in darkness, and thy darkness shall be as the noonday.”  DRB   (Read these scriptures and more at

When we serve others, sometimes the others have been afflicted.  At least in their minds and hearts they feel afflicted.  This certainly may be when a woman becomes pregnant through rape.  Not only have her personal boundaries been violated in a most cruel manner, there is now 9 months of ongoing evidence ahead of her, to be lived one day at a time.  That is, if she does not destroy this life that was created through violence.

It is a hard thing.  How is there any way of handling this situation?  Who would understand the hated humiliation of this, except someone who has gone through it herself?  There is none to understand, really, to completely identify with these women’s situations . . . except for other women of same experience.

Those of us who have not experienced this cannot pretend to “understand.”  There is no way.

But we can understand that the Lord does understand because He has been in human form and has seen the seamy side of life on Earth.  He experienced the extreme unfairness of it on the cross.  He suffered undeservedly just as such a woman does.  If ever any person understood affliction, it was Jesus Christ.

Lord, we want to know how to understand even though we cannot.  By asking for Your help in situations like this, we will be able to understand better—in order to offer compassionate counsel.  With You as the great Counselor, we will be able to help others who feel afflicted in many ways, particularly when dealing with a baby conceived in a violent encounter.

Topics:  Pray for a closeness to the Lord that bring us close to His heart as we counsel others in overwhelming circumstances concerning LIFE.
