§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Jeremiah 6:16 Thought/Prayer:  Ask for the Old Paths.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Thus said the LORD, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls.”  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

This scripture has to do with standing at a crossroads (in the ways) (like two roads, crossing).  Let us consider that it is speaking to you or me, about some time in life where there is more than one direction that can be taken.  As we stand, we are to “see.”  Not only are we to look; we are to look well enough to see (to really know the things at which we are looking).

But why would this verse say to “ask for the old paths”?  Aren’t we, when we are looking to see, supposed to look ahead, not back?  Yes and no.  We are not to live in the past and rehash old mistakes and failure, trusting in God to help us have victories in the future.

However, according to this scripture, there are things to be learned from our past experiences.  We don’t know what is referred to here, but perhaps we can surmise that the scripture is about remembering what is good and is from God, out of our past.

The Old Testament is all about the past of the people of God.  And the New Testament is a more recent description of the time of Jesus Christ on Earth.  There are foundational bases from both of these Testaments.

As we read our Bibles today, and as we may come to various crossroads in our lives, we often consider where we have been and the foundations upon which we have built so far.  The one true Foundation is Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 3:11 – “For no one can lay any other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ.  (WEB)  So, yes, we look back, and we ask for the “old paths.”  Sometimes they take us right back to where we’ve been and head us toward where we want to be.  Often, we didn’t even know we wanted to be there!

Lord, thank You, for this basic scripture from an Old-Testament prophet who knew so well what He was talking about because he spoke for you.  Help us to help others who are struggling to know of the foundation of Christ who can help them see their way across roads that cross.

Topics:  Pray for wisdom for families with LIFE issues to be decided in the near or far-distant future.  Help them to know of the foundation of the old paths that are available to them in Your Word.
