§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Job 1:1-4 Thought/Prayer:  Birthdays and Birth-Days.  Topics:  2 at end.

Job’s Character and Wealth
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil. There were born to him seven sons and three daughters. His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east. His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.”  (WEB)  Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

Birthdays.  Birthdays, it seems, were celebrated events even way back in the Old Testament.  In Genesis 40:20, Pharaoh, on his own birthday, gave a feast for his officials.  In New-Testament times, as in Mark 6, on his birthday, King Herod gave a banquet for his high officials and his military commanders.  But the verse above, regarding Job’s family’s celebration of birthdays, is the one we will consider.  (Could it be that the writer of this devotion is celebrating another birthday?)

Well, Job’s sons would celebrate their own birthdays by hosting a feast in their individual homes, as the date came around.  They invited their three sisters!  This type of birthday celebration is quite personal, one with which most of us can identify.

Birthdays can be times of celebration or remorse, depending upon how we feel the past year has gone for us.  But we will concentrate on celebration.  All types of fun events are created because someone has a birthday.  Of course, we all have had a Birth-Day.  We entered the world that day.  All the preborn are awaiting that day and developing toward it, when they exit Mother’s womb.  In our world, over years, parties may abound.  Cruises may cruise.  Hot-air balloons may ascend.  Sky divers may float.

This is all in celebration of our first birth-day.  But, to some, our second birthday becomes the most important:  The day of our birth into the kingdom of Jesus Christ, at the moment we receive Him as our Savior.  Think of John 3:3.  Jesus tells Nicodemus, “Truly truly, I say to you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  Yes, the second birth enters us into eternity with Jesus Christ.

But one consideration here is that, for the preborn, their “Birth-Day” into the world is the foundation for their second birth, the spiritual one.  God’s plan is for humans to be born into the human race first (sin-flawed by human-ness).  From there humans eventually have the choice to be born again, into God’s spiritual race, we might say.  When we human beings come to Jesus, we once again see the Baby Jesus’ birthday as pivotal in our lives.  And we are thankful for His birth and the power it carries down over the ages and into our lives.

Lord, help us to be faithful to pass this wondrous birthday news along to those who are hurting.  May those in LIFE struggles be introduced to the Babe whose birth is the most celebrated, more than pharaohs’ and other kings’.

Topics:  Pray for babies in the womb to be safe until delivered on their first, their only physical birth-day.
