§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Job 42:  7-10   Thought/Prayer:  Friendship Mightily Used.  Topics: 2 at end.

“And after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Themanite: My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends, because you have not spoken the thing that is right before my, as my servant Job hath.  Take unto you therefore seven oxen, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust: and my servant Job shall pray for you: his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you: for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath.  So Eliphaz the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite went, and did as the Lord had spoken to them, and the Lord accepted the face of Job.  The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.  Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)  (Read this scripture and more at

Job, the faithful friend, plays a very interesting role at God’s direction, to carry out God’s dealings with Job’s three friends who gave him advice that was not from God.  God required of Eliphaz, Baldad and Sophar that they offer sacrifices because of their wrong advice, advice that was displeasing to God.  They are to go to Job and make the sacrifices.  Then Job is to pray for them, and God would not attribute folly to these three.  God tells the three that only Job has spoken correctly:  they have not.

The three did as instructed and made the sacrifices; and God “accepted the face of Job.”  Because Job spoke correctly, he is considered acceptable to God.

Then we are told, “The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job” when Job prayed for these friends.  In some way known to God, the fact that Job prayed for these misled friends affected God’s heart.  His heart was affected so much that, after Job’s overwhelming losses, He gave Job twice as much as he did before.

This entire transaction is difficult to understand; I think I don’t understand it because it is divine and not meant to perhaps be fully understood even by God’s children, us.  But we can certainly be thankful that our humility before God and even before a friend can inspire prayers that God readily blesses.  This is, at the risk of over-using a word: awesome.

This is surely a striking occurrence here.  And how can we apply it to our Christian lives and/or ministries?  How do we use this in pro-life activities?

Only at the guidance of our Lord.  This is a unique portrayal of God’s unfathomable plans and wisdom.  Perhaps we just need to let it remain that this type of arrangement is unique and may never come to us.  But on the other hand, let us not forget that being faithful as friends, especially in the Lord, is something worthy of note by God, even to His using it in a mighty way to bring His plans to fulfillment.

We should see it as glorious:  and be ready should it come our way in some form, through the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Lord, help us to be aware should You ever want to use a friendship to cause some great event to occur.  Help us to be ready, however You would direct us through Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Topics:  Pray to be aware of how much friendship can be used of God and pray to be open to His leading in all friendships.
