§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

John 15:13-17 (Pt. 3)  Thought/Prayer:  A Marvelous Combination.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Greater Love has No One than This
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. From now on I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known to you. You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that you love one another.”  (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at

This scripture tells us that Jesus is our friend . . . . “But I have called you friends.”  And there is this great old hymn about just this friendship—(music by C.C. Converse (1868), words by Joseph M. Scriven (1855) (public domain), appropriately called “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.”

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.

Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

The sweet theme of this song about our Friend Jesus is this:  Prayer.  Right away at the end of the first two stanzas, we have “. . . Everything to God in prayer.”  And we can obviously see that the last line of the stanzas three, four and five is, “Take it to the Lord in prayer.”  The last three stanzas incorporate “Take it to the Lord in prayer”; “May we ever, Lord, be bringing All to Thee in earnest prayer”; and in Heaven, “There will be no need for prayer—. . . “

The writer of these words, Joseph M. Scriven, makes a beautiful combining of two themes in this hymn:  Jesus our Friend. Faithfully take everything to God in prayer.  The precious Savior is our refuge; we will find a solace in Him; we will praise Him in Heaven, in “Rapture, praise and endless worship.”  This is a blockbuster combination:  A Friend like no other.  The only Friend Who answers prayer.

Lord, help us to be faithful to share this Friend with so many who need to know about His marvelous friendship.  For those who struggle in the LIFE area, please send someone to tell them about the Friend who will all their burdens bear.  And hopefully we . . . and they . . . will take it all to the Lord in prayer.

Topics:  Pray for those who struggle with life issues or all the others issues of life, to know Jesus, the Friend from whom we can find solace and help, through prayer.
