§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

John 15:2 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Pruned with Patience.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”  ESV (Read this scripture and more at

Have you ever pruned bushes in a gotta-get-this-done! sort of dogged way?  You just get in there are yank and chop and pull in a big hurry?  Do you want to be pruned in that way?  God can do that, and sometimes he does (needs to, we might say), but don’t we know about His other approach to shaping us into more productive “plants” for His own purposes of use or beautification?

Maybe it seems to feel good, to get in there and work out the anger at having to do this job that is not enjoyed.  The more we rip, the better we feel.  Well, on some days maybe.

But take a look at the product here.  Does this approach leave a bit to be desired, in a possibly ragged result?  Maybe a good look at a bush thus manhandled will give us a clue as to a better way, the way God almost always uses with us when we need to be thinned out or trimmed in our daily walk with Him.  Maybe we can see that a little tenderness might be applied to our poor, very vulnerable bush.

The old, fading withering blooms can be whacked off, bunches at a time, when clumped on larger stems.  But if it is true that each of the blooms so clumped on smaller stems can be snipped to make way for several oncoming blooms, then perhaps more care should be taken.  It takes more time, of course.  But God takes unmeasurable time with us.  He is patient.  He models careful pruning.

Maybe if we cradle an old, blackening rose between our fingers and then carefully snip it off, another rose will soon come, to where all roses so pruned have been on that single branch.  We can at least try this and then wait and see perhaps myriad more roses in a few weeks.

Lord, we thank You that you model patience and careful shaping and pruning in our lives.  And, Lord, when it comes to our pro-life witness, we ask that You do as you know is necessary to bring us to a new-blooming witness after you have trimmed and even whacked at times.  We want to bloom perfectly for the babies and their families so we can model Your love and patience to them.

Topics:  Pray for patience and fortitude as God works His pruning in our lives.
