John 3:8 (Pt. 5) Thought/Prayer: Wind of the Spirit:  Blowing Freely. Topics: 2 at end.

“The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So is it with every one who has been born of the Spirit.”  (WEY)  (Read these scriptures and more at

Wind blows air around.  It does this in many fashions, including:  whirlwinds, microbursts, and those whirlwinds of dust called dust devils.  And humankind has invented different ways to attempt to control air:  Household fans blowing for cooling; sails of a boat capturing wind; directing air over and under the wings of airplanes for lift.  Windmills and those turning blades on wind turbines create electricity.  We even create wind in chambers or tunnels to run tests in the designing of airplanes.

And we humans utilize the properties of air (especially oxygen) in order to breathe, to take even that next breath.  Even our first breath was breathed into us by God:  Genesis 2:7:  “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (AKJV).”  It is this breath that is most precious – air from the Almighty given to us the moment we come from the womb.  In the Old Testament, one of the man Job’s friends told him, in
Job 33:4: “The spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life” (DRB).

On the day of Pentecost, 50 days after the Jewish Passover, with the sound of a great rushing wind, the Holy Spirit came into the room where Jesus’ followers were gathered, filling both the room and the individuals.  It was the beginning of a new and ongoing (forever) era of God working in the lives of human beings.  The Holy Spirit has always been, since He is God, and God has always existed, having no beginning.  But after Jesus’ resurrection, at Pentecost, the Spirit came to inhabit believers personally.  The same Spirit breathed life into all of us; the same Spirit will bring the first breaths of a newborn in the world.

We humans have many ways of harnessing the power of the wind.  No, we cannot “harness” the Holy Spirit.  There is nothing tech-y or mechanical that can ever control the Spirit of God.  No, the Spirit blows freely as He “doth will.”  But . . . when we let Him into our lives, He brings His driving air within our selves, so to speak, when we let Him lead us from within.

We must pray for the babies in the womb who are in danger of death before life.  Lord, please may Your Spirit convict families and individuals to champion the life of the little preborn person, just as You do.  And when they are born, we thank You for giving each little girl or boy that first gulp-of-a-breath that brings them to full participation of the air of Earth and eventually the appreciation of a quiet Earth-breeze on a beautiful spring day.

Topics:  Pray for the Holy Spirit to manifest Himself in greater and greater ways to convict and convince many people and families to believe in the worth of Your created LIFE, Lord.
Community leaders to be convicted of the worth of God-created LIFE
