John 4:16   Thought/Prayer:  Calling Our Names.  Topics:  2 at end.

“And as for us, we know the love which God has for us, and we confide in it. God is love, and he who continues to love continues in union with God, and God continues in union with him.”  WEY (Read this scripture and more at
II heard mention recently how God calls out to us – how He knows us by name and calls to us.  He knows us.  Our names.  It is our names that He knows.  Seemingly belaboring the point here?  Yes . . . but to make a point.  He knows us.  And this is a most incredible thing, because we can be assured that because He knows us, He is loving us because that is His nature, to love. Like what we see in this Bible verse, one of the verses a child may learn:  “God is love.”

Mother-love shows itself unique.  A mother hen clucks to her chicks.  A daddy wild mustang herds a wayward colt back into line.  Parents are always letting their kids know that they are there . . . with different sounds and little intimacies.

Our God must surely talk to us with different “sounds” and intimacies.  Each of us knows His voice in different ways. But we do know that as He grieved over the spiritual condition of Jerusalem, He referred to Himself as a mother hen gathering her brood.  (That must surely involve some kind of special clucking.)  He used it in the vein of thought of a mother’s love for her children.

Of course we don’t know that a mother hen would call her chicks by “name” – not really.  But God knows us and calls us by name.  Perhaps one of the most endearing aspects of parenthood is the choosing of children’s names and the sweet use of them over the lifetime of a parent.  And are we listening?  This is the question:  Are we listening?

Any parent will know his or her children very well and will communicate with them according to their personalities and receptive aspects when being called.  Lord, just help us to listen for Your voice and to be ready to hear what You have to tell us.  Then we will know better how to serve you in pro-life areas and others.

Topics:  Pray for ears to hear what God wants to tell us and to follow His advice.
