Lamentations 3:22-24 (Pt. 3) Thought/Prayer: Faithfulness, Mercy. Topics: 2 at end.
“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion, said my soul; therefore will I hope in him.” (AKJV) (Read these scriptures and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)
God’s faithfulness comes to us in many ways, one of which is specifically spelled out in this scripture. The writer is speaking of the Lord’s mercies and His patience toward us to not “consume” us . . . not to do away with us because of our lack of holiness. We are told that God’s compassions toward us do not fail. Every morning they come in full supply to us again and again, never failing.
This is because of God’s faithfulness. Faithfulness has to do with being true and steadfast; acting according to commitments made; never varying from the course. God’s faithfulness toward us includes: being true and steadfast; accomplishing His commitment, among many, to provide us ongoing mercy; being the unchangeable God that He is without variance or shadow (James 1:17).
If He weren’t faithful, He might decide to withhold His mercies for a day or two if we have not done our best to do His will. But, no. Mercy is there for us every day and the day after. We must praise Him for this faithfulness. We always know that we can count on Him for mercy when we need it and ask for it. In our confession times, we know He forgives and then will supply us immediately with new mercy for the next time we need it. And we will need it. We are prone to do what displeases His holy goals for us. Yes, we will need to draw upon His bottomless well of mercy over and over.
There are so many who need to know about this merciful God. Those battling others over LIFE decisions need to know that God’s mercy is still with them no matter the heat of the battle. And they may also pray for mercy for those who are going against created LIFE, that they may know God’s care and realize the true meaning of life.
Topics: Pray for the ability to share with others about God’s never-ending mercy, that they may praise Him for the morning gift of it, every day.
