Luke 1:39-45 (Pt . 3)  Thought./Prayer.  (Not Heaps but) Leaps of Joy.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah, and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. It happened, when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, that the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She called out with a loud voice, and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy! Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”  WEB (Read these scriptures and more at

How amazing is one characteristic of a baby in this story!  Leaping!  Leaping for joy!

When John the Baptist (while still in his mother Elizabeth’s womb at about six months) heard the voice of His Lord Jesus’ mother (Mary) he leapt for joy.  Mother Elizabeth must have truly felt … a leap is not exactly a little flutter, as baby movements within are at first notice.

Move now to a victory scene at a baseball game, a football game, a soccer game . . . what are all of those players doing?  Leaping!  Jumping around, hugging one another, just plain ol’ jumpin’ up and down.  Arms go up, hands clap, and on and on.  Often for many minutes.  Sometimes huge men doing all of this.

So this “little” characteristic on John the Baptist’s part is so very human.  That little preborn had joy.  And he jumped.  How sweet of God to put this into the record of John and his cousin Jesus meeting for the first time, although in utero.  It is truly joyous to read.

Lord, help us to be continually joyous and jumping, overjoyed with You.  Oh, yes, we humans are often reluctant to leap about over something; but why not?  At least may we leap in our hearts . . . In fact this might occur when we hear the voice of a special friend coming to visit.  We get just a little extra heart’s joy . . . a little elevation of the spirit perhaps.

Topics:  Pray for the awe it takes to leap for joy over something or someone.  And if ever involved in helping someone choose LIFE for a loved one, top if off with some type of leap . . . you’ll enjoy it!
