Luke 18:1-8 (Pt. 4)  Thought/Prayer:  No Tiring of Our Requests.  Topics:  2 at end.

Parable of the Persistent Widow
He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up, saying, ‘There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man. A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, “Defend me from my adversary!” He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself, “Though I neither fear God, nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.” The Lord said, ‘Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?’”  (WEB)  (Read this scripture and more at

One small statement here typifies how God is with us, His children.  Those who know God through His son Jesus Christ are His children.  And right here it says God is patient with us.  It’s a good thing to know, that when we come to Him over and over and over, He will not tire of hearing our requests.  Now, we may think He is not hearing because we have timetables that affect the way we view His answers.  We expect answers to come when we want them!  But His thoughts and ways are far beyond ours. (Isaiah 55:8)

Yes God is patient with us and will help us as we cry out to Him.  When we want His will in our lives, we know that we have it because He answers the prayers that are in accordance with His will (I John 5:14).  It’s just interesting that He used the story about this ungodly judge to prove the point.  I’m sure we’ve all known of judges who do not serve God nor have any intention to!  But here is one in a Bible illustration who does something good, although making lines in the sand from greatly dragging his feet, and we can learn from him.

God uses many type of people to accomplish His purposes, including many who go against His ways and desires.  But He can use them, even to rulers in the Bible who had no idea of believing . . . but who did great things far God.  And maybe they came to believe.

Lord, we praise You for your great plans for people, those who love You and those who do not.  We pray for all who do not love You and find themselves in unwanted straits regarding pregnancy.  And we pray for those in that circumstance who do love You!

Topics:  Pray for understanding of how God uses even those who do not honor Him, for His purposes.  Claim from Him blessings through such persons.
