Luke 2:25-38   Thought/Prayer:  Joy to the World, A Baby and Friends.  Topics:  2 at end.

“And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him.  And it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27And he came by the spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,  Then he took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For my eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to enlighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken concerning him. And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (And a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher: she was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about eighty four years, who departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant, gave thanks likewise to the Lord, and spoke of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”  WBT (Read this scripture and more at

Written five years ago, the words of this devotion still ring true . . . and they always will.  Here, included with the Baby Jesus were some elderly folks.  A beautiful pairing.

“Joy to the World, a Baby came.  At eight days old, this Baby was greeted in the Temple by the man Simeon, apparently old, and the prophetess Anna, 84 years old.  According to God’s plan for salvation, from the beginning of its being fleshed out, a baby and older folks played a part.  May we always, Lord, revere babies and the elderly as part of your plan, not because of what they do, but just because they are just here:  you have put them here.  Help us to get the word out that the Word in fleshly baby form and His elderly friends are wanted and needed by God.  Merry Christmas.”

Topics:  Praise God that the truth of the Baby Jesus . . . and his elderly friends . . . will always stay the same.  Pray to always revere the youngest and the oldest of society.
