Mark 1:1, 2 Thought/Prayer: At Jesus’ Doorway. Topics: 2 at end.
“After some days He entered Capernaum again, and it soon became known that He was at home; and such numbers of people came together that there was no longer room for them even round the door. He was speaking His Message to them . . .” KJV http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
Even the great master, Jesus, could not find a moment to himself. He was so beloved by many, that when they heard he was home, they crowded his doorway to call get his attention. We are told that, after childhood days, his home was in Capernaum. It’s comforting to know that although he was actually an itinerant preacher, he did get to go back to his home.
But not to total rest!
What was it about Jesus that drew others to him in such a way as to be possibly overbearing about spending time with him? What drew them to His doorway at home?
Probably everything about his person! There has never been another like him. We don’t know exactly what he looked like, although many of us probably picture him in some type of portrayal by different artists. But we know his personality must have been totally magnetic, and his charisma must have been undeniable. His miracles would have drawn adoration from believing crowds. Who wouldn’t want to go to him and perhaps experience a miracle or witness one?
But, of course, the big “draw” of Jesus is that he was God in human form. Not all in the crowd knew this or even believed it if they had heard this about him. (Some who heard this, we know, hated it! This claim would eventually cause Him his life.)
But it remains that he was God. This is why no one has ever lived, or will live, to be like Him. God incarnate: God in carnal flesh. We believers totally accept this unfathomable existence.
And so, crowds take over his doorway. And he comes out to them to ply his trade of healing and teaching. How does he ever get any rest?!
But we can come to the doorway of his true home (in Heaven, seated by the Father), at any time. And there will be no crowding. All alive in the world can come to this door and not have to jostle for space. We are invited to do this: Matthew 7:7 – “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. . .” KJV
When standing for LIFE in our world, let us never forget that we can storm Jesus’ door, so to speak, with so many requests, just as others are at the very same time, and never have to worry that He will not notice us or that we will get nudged aside. The ever-popular Jesus in earthly form is still the same Jesus, although glorified. His nature, personality and skills are now even greater than they were on Earth, since He returned to Heaven and all the power of the Risen Lord.
Thank you, God, for giving us such a wonderful Savior on Earth, and thank you that He was willing to give up his time at home for the needs of others. Thank you that we can always be noticed at his door any time, any place. You nudge US to your doorway!
Topics: Thank God for the opportunity we have to always access our Lord at any moment, especially as we serve others for LIFE.
