Matthew 26:50-52 Thought/Prayer: Not Violence. Topics: 2 at end.
“And Jesus said unto him, ‘Friend, wherefore art thou come’? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him. And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. Then said Jesus unto him,‘Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.’” KJV (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
The use of violence to try to prevent abortion is counterintuitive. If we are wanting to save lives, why would anyone put other persons at risk of losing their lives through our aggressive actions? To intentionally put a life at risk to only possibly save another life: It should not be.
We know that emotions run high and tempers take over reason at times in efforts to prevent the killing of preborn babies. It is so easy to cross over lines of civil action when civility seems to exist somewhere beyond our moment of intense feelings. And yet we must walk away from the intensity and in some way make a stand with more effective measures.
We say “effective” because violence results in more violence; and violence can so well produce destruction and injury. Can’t we get our point across in other ways? We may think that we have accomplished some objective through anger and actions of rage; but really, no. No, violence does bring more violence; and if we are to be known as people who love Jesus’ law of love, we cannot at the same time be known as physically “warlike” in our approach.
Jesus spoke of this in the above scripture. He was being arrested to be tried and crucified, and someone with him cut off the ear of a servant of the high priest. Jesus chastised this person for the violence, saying that only more violence would come from it. He Himself was about to endure the most violent of deaths imaginable; but he said to put a halt to it.
Lord, we thank you that we as pro-life persons have You on our side to help us fight our battles non-violently. We know the results that prayer brings through You. Thank you that Your power is always available to us, especially through prayer, and we do not have to physically pick up weapons. Thank you, and help us to not even consider something more drastic.
