§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Matthew 7:1,2 Thought/Prayer:  A Bible’s Cover.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.”  WEB (Read this scripture and more at

IIt is said, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”  Don’t assume that the words inside are not worth reading just because the cover may be ratty and unappealing.  Open it to get the real goodies from it in prose, poetry, whatever.

But have you ever judged a Bible by its cover?  It is also said that a Bible should look worn and perhaps a bit tattered.  Why?  Well, tattered from use!  Many a grandmother’s or grandfather’s Bible may appear this way, worn down or pages creased and thumbed smooth from wear.  Maybe this is the “grandma” standard for all personal Bibles!

Or is it?  Take for example, in someone’s home into which you have been invited, there is a beautiful Bible on an end table.  It’s beautiful because it has the look of newness, of unused-ness.  Nothing is torn, creased, dog-eared or smudged.  It’s a thing of beauty (not only from its outer appearance, of course, but because we know the contents – beautiful words of LIFE.)

While admiring it, we may be thinking in our selves, “Hmm.  Yes, this is a nice bible . . . but it’s too perfect.  It isn’t being USED!  For shame.  Bibles are better when they’re worn, aren’t they?  This one needs a little use!  And so does the owner need some use out of this Bible!

Of course, this judgment is only within our heart and mind.  When our hostess walks back in, she says, “Oh, you see my new Bible.  It was a present from a great Christian sister as a birthday gift.  Isn’t it lovely?”

Poof goes the basis of our criticism.  Thankfully!  Now we know that, in two or three years or so, this Bible may take on physical characteristics of a book greatly-used.  That’s fine.  But we should not expect it.  There may be a personal Bible in a knitting bag that travels with our acquaintance everywhere .  . .  and it’s downright dingy from usage.  The pretty Bible may be allowed to remain fresh and pretty as a centerpiece of décor.  Someone who is not a believer may notice it and then later remember it as a thing of attraction.  (Maybe some day a beautiful Bible such as this will be opened for meaning by this person.)

Yes, Lord, help us to be non-judgmental about such things.  We all know that it’s so easy to judge, even in the appearance of a book (Yours, of course).  Help us to be open-minded about the things that we see in other Christians; help us to anticipate and expect the best instead of fault-picking and blame.  Then help us to see people in LIFE battles in the same way, as worthy and of value as we attempt to assist them to see LIFE as important in their decisions.

Topics:  Pray for an attitude of non-judgementalism when it comes to what we see in others as we go through our days.  Help us to seek the truth in others’ lives.
