§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Matthew 9:38-41 Thought/Prayer: The Bible’s Beautiful Waters, of Christ. Topics:  2 at end.

“And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name, and he follows not us: and we forbade him, because he follows not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part. For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.” (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

When we consider the place of a cup of water in this passage, it may catch us a bit.  The incident involving Jesus’ disciples, a man casting out devils in Jesus’ name – most serious thing – and a cup of water!  The description takes us from devils being cast out to a simple cup of water.  This is a wide-spread variation!

The disciples might understandably wonder why a person who doesn’t follow Jesus would drive out someone’s devils.  And Jesus just explains to them that the man is for Jesus, not against him.  We see the same type of statement in Luke 9:49,50 – “And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name; and we forbade him, because he follows not with us. And ‘Jesus said to him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us’” (AKJV).

It’s then that the cup of water . . . just a simple cup of water . . . comes in.  “For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.”  These words have become a symbol to our world.  A cup of water, representing the Savior – because of kindness.

Is this what we offer to those who are thirsting for Jesus, or just for answers in their lives?  There is so much struggle over LIFE issues.  Those of us who work regarding these issues do, in some ways, hold out a cup of water for those who thirst.  And, one other aspect of this could be that even those who are not like us, in pro-life work, can have their place alongside us.  A given cup of water may be universal.  But did Jesus the Lord not make it a symbol?

Lord, thank You for this verse of contrasts.  Help us to glean from it what you will have for us.  Help us to fill and hand out many cups of cool, refreshing water.

Topics:  Pray for blessings on those who represent our Lord in LIFE circles, to be alert for the need to hand out Jesus’ loving water.
