§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Nehemiah 3:1-5; Nehemiah 3:6-12   Thought/Prayer:  They Built, Together.  Topics:  2 at end.

The Builders of the Walls

“Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even to the tower of Meah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hananeel. And next to him built the men of Jericho. And next to them built Zaccur the son of Imri.
But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. And next to them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz. And next to them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel. And next to them repaired Zadok the son of Baana. and next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their LORD.”

“Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, to the throne of the governor on this side the river. Next to him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, of the goldsmiths. Next to him also repaired Hananiah the son of one of the apothecaries, and they fortified Jerusalem to the broad wall. And next to them repaired Rephaiah the son of Hur, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem. And next to them repaired Jedaiah the son of Harumaph, even over against his house. And next to him repaired Hattush the son of Hashabniah. Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahathmoab, repaired the other piece, and the tower of the furnaces. And next to him repaired Shallum the son of Halohesh, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem, he and his daughters.”  (AKJV) Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com

In the time of Nehemiah, the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt.  Nehemiah was given permission by Artaxerxes, king of Persia, to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall.  It was quite a varied workforce that accomplished this . . . a portrayal of how people of many backgrounds and abilities can work together to accomplish what God would intend.  Many people were called out of their comfort zone, we might say, to assist with the huge project.

Just take a look the various persons specifically named in this account, and their duties in building:
Eliashib The high priest   Built the sheep gate
Eliashib’s brothers (priests) Built the sheep gate
Men of Jericho
Hassenaah’s sons     The fish gate.  Also laid beams and set up doors, the locks and the bars

Other individuals are named, as well as the Tekoites.  (But their nobles did not participate.)

Jehoiada and Meshullam Old gate – Beams, doors, locks and bars
Men of Gibeon
Men of Mizpah
Mention is made of the throne of the governor, “on this side of the river,” in some manner
Uzziel       Of the goldsmiths.
Hananiah The son of an apothecary

Malchijah The tower of the furnaces.
Hashub       The tower of the furnaces
Two rulers of the “half part of Jerusalem”

Well, it was quite a mix.  From ruler to high priest to goldsmiths . . . All working together.  Many working out their field of endeavor.
Are we in pro-life work ready to do something beyond our usual?  Lord, we pray that we are.  We ask you to be willing and to be knowledgeable about work previously unknown to us.
Then let us apply this to the work we do with other LIFE individuals and groups to increase the standing of created and natural life.

Topics:  Pray for those who must work alongside others who have different backgrounds and outlooks, that harmony may prevail.
