§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Philippians 3:14   Thought/Prayer:  The Press.  Topics:  2 at end.

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (WEB)  (Read these scriptures and more at

If ever there is an example of a true and great press, it is at the goal line of a football field, with inches to cover, with Team A attempting to cross that line to score; with Team B attempting to foil any plan.  It’s at these moments that we see the press in classic display.

There are twenty-two bodies at that line, and at the snap, all of these guys’ bodies immediately come together to either defend or attempt the offensive crossing of the line into the end zone.  Eleven of these men are pushing one way; eleven are pushing the opposite way.  In college football, these are usually big men, some of which are really big defensive players who know how to push to get the opponent out of the way.

The offense is pushing forward; the defense pushes back.  And we have this compact circle of men at the line all up against one another, like a big wad of colors – two colors – whatever the teams’ colors are.  This is a nitty-gritty display of what it means to press.

Often this press of men doesn’t seem to move anywhere; it’s just at the line of scrimmage, right there by the goal line, and no one really moves forward or back.  They just keep on pressing against each other to try to deter any gain either direction: forward or back.

And many times this press of men isn’t completed until there is a whistle to end the play.  It is then, of course, that we see where the ball ended up.

Paul says in this scripture that we are to press on toward God’s goals in Christ Jesus.  Press and press on.  Go against.  Push back.  Stand, no matter the pressure in the attack.

Pressing on isn’t always easy.  There are obstacles – such as that huge defensive guy who won’t get out of your face and whose force seems Herculean in all ways.  You’d hammer him, but you cant’ move your arm because some other big strong body is pressing against your side.

But press on we must.  Each of us has forces of resistance that are unique to our lives.  We may not know how to press on; but God does, and He will give us not only direction, but strength for the press.  Lord, we ask that we will let You guide the battle against the forces we face in our individual lives.  Show Your power, and let us pass it on to others who need strength in life’s battles, especially life-and-death.

Topics:  Pray for strength in the press to help those struggling with forces threatening the life of babies in the womb.
