Philippians 4:6   Thought/Prayer:  Thanksgiving Week, #1.  Topics:  2 at end.

As Thanksgiving Day, approaches in the United States – or when citizens of other nations have times of special thankfulness for all the blessings they receive (Germany and Canada, for example), there are many scriptures that may be thought of.  Philippians 4:6 is one.  In this verse, thanksgiving is associated with prayer.  “Prayer and supplication” are mentioned.  Some might define prayer as talking with God . . . thinking our words to Him; it’s perhaps a more general term.  Supplication has, usually, to do with making requests of Him . . . to ask Him for something, or even beg.

So, we are to pray and supplicate:  But with thanksgiving!  We are to be thanking Him all along.

So how do we know to be thankful when we don’t know if our requests will be answered in the way we think they should be?  This can be somewhat problematic, we may say.  It doesn’t make sense.  Well, yes, humanly, this may not make sense.  But, since God is way beyond our human-ness,  we can perceive things differently, as He would have us.  Perhaps our thanksgiving just depends upon one thing:  Our trust in Him.

Oh, no, it’s not always easy.  We can think of so many reasons not to totally trust Him, especially when we really really think we know what we want – should be what He wants!  But it’s when we stay close to Him that our wants can mesh with His.  And that is the real basis for thanksgiving:  we know that His answers will always be what is best for us.  And for this we may always be thankful.

Sometimes it’s just a matter of praying continually and not ceasing to desire His best for us.  When we pray for those in LIFE struggles, we can also be thankful and offer thanksgiving as we pray, for the way in which God will answer our prayers for these individuals and families.

Lord, thank You for pairing our thankfulness, with our prayers.  You are the One Who sets things up like this.  We just supplicate for those in pro-LIFE crises, that You will be working out situations for them in order to bring about Your will for the elderly, handicapped, preborn and more.  All along:  With thanksgiving.

Topics:  Ask the Lord to help you pray with thanksgiving, trusting in His impeccable and infallible wisdom in His answers.
