Proverbs 11:2 (Pt. 4)  Thought/Prayer:  Wise-Humble? Not Really.  Topics:  2 at end.

“When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.”  (WEB)  Read this scripture and more at

OK.  One more consideration of humility and wisdom.

It is perhaps simple.
We don’t get humble because of wisdom, according to this passage.  We get wisdom because we are humble.

Could it all boil down to the chicken/egg concept?  We’re wise because we’re humble?  We’re humble because we’re wise?

In this scripture, we are humble.  Then wise.

To sum it up shortly, it’s a matter of attribution.  From where does wisdom come?  From God.  How do we get God’s wisdom?  We ask for it.  James 1:5,6, World English Bible:  “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.  But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.”

If we are asking for something, we know we don’t have it already.
This is not the stuff of pride.  When we ask for something, it is in humility.  We are putting our “selves” to be seen as lacking.

So let us ask.  And because of the humility in asking, we will be wise.

We are humble, then wise.  Oh Lord, let us take this in, this simple concept of our gaining your wisdom, the only true wisdom there ever is.  And help us to live this as we assist others in their struggles, in the LIFE area or many others.  Help us to never be seen as know-it-alls; because then we are not viewed as wise:  Indeed, are not.

Topics:  Praise God that He gives us His wisdom.  Thank Him that we can gain it through humble asking.
