Ps. 127:3-5 (Pt. 3) Thought/Prayer: Babies in the Gate. Topics: 2 at end.
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.†KJV (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
We see here that children are a gift from the womb. And they are a heritage of God. And we have babies sitting in the city gate, speaking to enemies, right? Well, no. Not exactly.
But, “Yesâ€! to babies in the gate. Sort of. Yes, they will be in the city gate. . . after they grow up! They can grow up and possibly have the honor of sitting in the city gate, a center of justice or commerce.
Here we, in some ways, have an overview of a possible lifespan of a newborn baby. And interestingly, not only with babies grow up to sit in a city gate, they will talk with the enemies at hand. Obviously, as these babies grow and develop, they gain skills useful to the dwelling places where they live. Apparently diplomacy can be one of them.
Here in His Word, God has placed within three verses (numbered post-writing, of course), a praise for children and the reward that they are, and the possibilities of any child in the womb. So why should any child in a womb not be allowed to be born? That should not be. Within the very first joining together the beginning of new person, all the hopes and dreams God has for that beginning person are right there. When a cruel cold tool reaches inside the womb and does its work of destroying, hopes and dreams are destroyed along with the physical carnage. Maybe one of those babies-that-would-have-been would have been a great leader in the “city gate.â€
Lord, help us to help others to see the tragedy of abortion in light of this scripture. Help us to not forget these words; help us to remember them and to be able to use them when appropriate, with others. Help us to show others in a crisis pregnancy to see the possibilities within that child within.
