§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Psalm 100   Thought/Prayer:  A Self-Made Man.  Topics:  2 at end.

Shout for Joy to the Lord, All You Lands!
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all you lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know you that the LORD he is God: it is he that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful to him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endures to all generations.”  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at

A self-made man.  We often say a fellow is a “self-made” man (or person, or woman . . . )  So, how do we see this in pictures in our minds?  Well, let’s see.  We picture someone who is not already made getting out all sorts of components to make herself.  Maybe this non-person (not even invisible – there has to be something for it to be invisible) gets a drawing board, clay, crayons, a sculpting tool, sets of eyes and ears, etc., and gets to work.  This never-there individual gets to work making himself.

Of course not.  We all know that describing someone as self-made means that they have, under their own initiative, gotten themselves to where they are in life without a lot of help from others.  Maybe there is no history of education in his background, but there is PhD behind his name.  Maybe there were no opportunities readily seen while growing up; but she made her own.  Yes, perhaps pretty much self-made.  But when we think of God and His creation of people?  No such thing.  None of us is ever self-made.  Make ourselves in the womb?  Now – How?

No, we are God-made.  Says so in this Psalm.  “It is He that has made us and not we ourselves.”  But sometimes we go around with back-pats on ourselves over how well we have accomplished something or how special we are because of certain characteristics in our lives, such as our “looks” or our talents.  It as though we had all the wherewithal to give our own selves the ability to play a musical instrument, kick a football, or top an IQ test.

It’s easy to do.  (There is much written in the Bible about the pitfall of pride.)  Psalm 10:4, from the World English Bible:  “The wicked, in the pride of his face, has no room in his thoughts for God.” Young’s Literal Translation puts it as an image:  “The wicked according to the height of his face, inquireth not. ‘God is not!’ are all his devices.”  The height of his face!  Yes, the face of pride, reigning above others!

But the thing to remember, when we consider pro-LIFE interests, is that God is still in the business of creating people from womb-up, with all of the characteristics He plans.  And He is planning all of the aspects of an embryo’s life, from fertilization.  Perhaps explaining this to mothers who are distraught over the new life within may help her and her family come to terms with the pregnancy, and that the God-made, God-designed person within has much to offer the world, once born.

Topics:  Pray for the ability to share that God-made persons have every right to be born because of what God has planned into their creation.
