Psalm 104:18 Thought/Prayer: Oh Yes, the Rock-Badger. Topics: 2 @ end.

“The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs, a refuge for the rock-badgers.”  (DBT)  (Read this scripture and more at

This verse might seem a big strange.  Wild goats and rock-badgers?  Well, sometimes mention of a lesser-seen animal can catch attention.  So, the rock badger?  Well, it does make its home in the cavities of rocks . . . just as the scripture might indicate.  They must apparently escape into the crevices of rocks in cliffs.

As for the wild goats, it is common knowledge that mountain goats are very adept at walking about on the steep, slanted terrain of mountains.  Just seeing them on a video makes one shudder with altitude trepidation at the seeming risks they take - - that are not risks at all to them!
So here they are in this psalm, a psalm that is replete with praises to God for His magnificent and varied natural creation on Earth.  Over and over the psalm describes the natural world in terms of God’s majestic hand.

So we consider the mountain goat and the rock-badger.  Not exactly your household word, rock-badger.  But we might think, if the psalmist saw fit to include it in this psalm of praise, then God must take an interest in all animals, whether well-known and widespread, or not.  He loves the mountain goat and rock-badger and made them especially for the environments they need to live and thrive and reproduce.

If God loves these animals that live “just right,” surely God must care for all of us humans “just right” also, in the way He created us to live in our environment.  Let us pray, Lord, that You will bless those persons who are not of the “mainstream” yet . . . that being the preborn . . . so that they can come into our world wherever You place them . . . and that one day they can learn about the high-living mountain goat and that unusually-named rock-badger.

Topics:  Praise God for his varied creation, and especially for His plan for precious newborn humans who will enjoy it
