§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Psalm 25:12-15 (Pt. 2)  Thought/prayer:  Focus Upward.  Topics:  2 at end.

“What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.  His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.  The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.  My eyes are ever towards the LORD; for he will pluck my feet out of the net.”  WBS (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)

If our eyes are “toward the Lord,” where can they not be?  Staring down at the net in which we are caught.  And if our eyes are “ever” toward the Lord, there is not opportunity to go around looking downward and worrying about the net wrapping itself around our ankles.  What is the net?  Any of a million things that can catch us up in life and render us dysfunctional either for awhile or for days, weeks, months . . .

How grateful we should be that we have somewhere to focus besides on our difficulties in life, even difficulties possibly of our own making.  To be more specific, we have Someone on whom to focus.  There is a song by Helen H. Lemmel, 1922, about looking to Jesus.  It has good theology!  This song is in the public domain, so I can use the chorus here:
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”

It works perfectly here, doesn’t it?  The Psalm tells us to keep our eyes ever toward the Lord, and here is a song right to the point.  And it’s true:  The more we focus “up,” the less time we have to look down.  And when we’re in trouble, it’s the best time to keep looking up.  Otherwise all of the binding from that messy twisting net will seem too intricately interwoven to even consider loosening it ourselves.

Lord, we do thank you that we are specifically told where to focus our eyes, our lives.  We know, Lord, that you tell us that where our hearts are is our treasure.  Maybe we can also say, Lord, that our focus-point describes our intents and standings.  Maybe others can see our hope just by viewing the upcast of our eyes.

Topics:  Pray for increased focus upward in our lives, especially when dealing with LIFE issues in this life of ours on Planet Earth.
