Psalm 28:7 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  Joy/Delight?  Topics:  2 at end.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my song will I praise him.”  (AKJV)  Read this scripture and more at

Nehemiah 8:10b “’ . . . ‘‘for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.’” (AKJV)

When someone asked for prayer for God’s strength, and upon immediately thinking of “. . . the joy of the Lord is my strength, I came to a conclusion not thought of before.  It’s not that I will not pray for strength for this person.  I will.  But in addition to that, I am going to pray specifically for JOY.  It’s right there in the Nehemiah verse.  Strength is imbedded in God’s joy.

Often our acquaintances, friends and family need strength for the day or for whatever huge challenges they are facing in life.  Along with this need may also come downcast attitudes toward their situations.  There may be a lot of repression of feelings and thoughts – not letting them out to the surface for processing – forcing them down into the depths of being.  There may be great emotional upheaval including a depressed spirit.

These problems and the way in which they are dealt with can be huge and overpowering.  But maybe there is way for folks to begin to deal better with all that is going on.  Perhaps those who want to help make things better should be praying for something a bit unusual:  Joy. Joy in the life of persons in such situations.

Joy may seem the last thing ever for someone going through these times.  However, if others pray for joy, then when God answers, there may be some joy infusing the situation, even before answers are observed.  We as praying, concerned folks, cannot make joy happen.  God can.

If a very sad person can have one ray of joy in life, there is a bit of light shed on the problem.  Joy can bring delight.  A bit of light perhaps.

Lord, help us to pray for those in such struggles.  We ask that You answer with some joy in their situations.  Help us to mentally picture a lighter heart from a little joy – joy that would continue to grow as things get better.

Topics: Pray for those in LIFE struggles to find some joy from God, that His light might shine through bits of delight, even if only here and there.
