§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Psalm 29 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  The Voice of the Lord.  Topics:  2 at end.

Ascribe Glory to the Lord
Give to the LORD, O you mighty, give to the LORD glory and strength.
Give to the LORD the glory due to his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
The voice of the LORD is on the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is on many waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yes, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the LORD makes the hinds to calve, and discovers the forests: and in his temple does every one speak of his glory.
The LORD sits on the flood; yes, the LORD sits King for ever.
The LORD will give strength to his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.”  (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at

Out of eleven lines in this Psalm, six begin with “The voice of the LORD.”  The entire psalm is about giving the Lord His due in worship and glory.  And over 50% of the lines are about His voice.  So what is said about the voice of our God, here in this writing?

Well, it is thundering on many waters.
It is powerful.
It is full of majesty.
It breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
It divides flames of fire.
It shakes the wilderness.
It makes the hinds to bear their calves.
It discovers the forests.
And in the temple the people’s voices speak back to Him of His glory.

Well, if Anyone ever deserved to have a voice in anything, it is the LORD!  And He does!  The voice described here is, of course, the same voice that spoke creation into existence.  Interestingly, in Genesis 1:3-29, there are eight of these following statements at beginning of each creative act:  “And God said.”  And each one is followed by one and then the next and the next created natural entity, culminating with the creation of mankind in God’s own image.

Yes, God’s voice thunders in power and is the source of creation.  So how can humankind ever hope to know Him?

He is in the “still small voice.”  God was not in an earthquake, wind or fire.  He spoke to the prophet Elijah in a “still small voice” (I Kings 19:12).  It’s not that we do not see His majesty in all of the shakings and thundering.  We do.  It’s awesome.  But often when He speaks to us His children, it is quiet yet demanding of our attention.  Insistent sometimes.

It can be this way with mothers who are struggling with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.  They may not know which way to turn.  Things seem impossible.  But as those of us who care about these women pray, God may just answer by a whisper to them of what they should do:  Choose LIFE.  His voice, so booming and big, gets soft and gentle; and He loves, through it.

Lord, we thank You for the creative power shown in this Psalm.  We thank You that it is the same creative power that begins a new life in a womb.  We thank You that a mother, and her family, may just hear the smaller, quieter voice of direction.  We pray, Lord, that they will quietly listen.

Topics:  Pray for those families who need God’s direction so badly, concerning pregnancy and/or illness.  Lord, speak softly not only into their ears, but their hearts as well.
