Psalm 29   Thought/Prayer:  Skipping in the Air.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Ascribe Glory to the Lord
Give to the LORD, O you mighty, give to the LORD glory and strength.
Give to the LORD the glory due to his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
The voice of the LORD is on the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is on many waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yes, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the LORD makes the hinds to calve, and discovers the forests: and in his temple does every one speak of his glory.
The LORD sits on the flood; yes, the LORD sits King for ever.
The LORD will give strength to his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.”  (AKJV)  (Read this scripture and more at

I saw a robin redbreast skipping today.  It made me think of this scripture that has the cedars of Lebanon skipping like a calf, and also Lebanon and Sirion (Mt. Hermon on the border of Syria and Lebanon) skipping like a unicorn.  Yes, this can be counted as imagery in this Psalm; but maybe, just maybe, some day trees and mountains will literally skip in the joy of the Lord.

But this robin was definitely skipping.  Only, in the air . . . not on the ground.  He was heading for a landing by our corner’s street sign.  As he lowered toward his target, he skipped – well, he made scallops in the air, down and up as he flew forward.  It was definitely skipping.

He landed and went about searching the grass for a bite.  And I enjoyed it all.  A robin that skips along must be happy!  Isn’t that why children skip?  They are joyful and feel like doing little bounces with their feet.  My robin was probably in a spring mood.  The day felt spring-y.

So, a bit of joy came to me from this brief viewing of a happy nature (in nature).  Maybe I was cheerier throughout the day, remembering this skipping along in the air.  Shall I pass along some of this happiness?

I’d like to give it to a lot of babies who are about to be born.  In fact, I must pray that they will be born and not have life taken from them in the womb.  Lord, be with the mothers who are contemplating this atrocity of life-taking consequence.  Maybe, Lord, you can give them joy for the baby; and maybe the baby will see many robin redbreasts and have a happy day from it.

Topics:  Praise God for nature and all its blessings, and especially for its happy impact on those who struggle with weighty decisions.  Help them to learn to skip because of Your presentation of joy in nature.
