§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Psalm 36:8 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:  God’s Pleasures.  Topics:  2 at end.

“They shall be abundantly satisfied with the abundance of your house. You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.”  (WEB)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)

What are God’s pleasures?  What are they for the “children of men,” whom this Psalm addresses?

Well, we’re perhaps given a hint about them in I Corinthians 2:9, “But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him (AKJV).”  Could not these words be a little window into what pleases God?  He wants to please us with these magnificent heretofore unknown things . . . so they must please Him also!  Whatever His pleasure are, when we are righteous through His son the Messiah, through our trust in Him, we will have access to His marvelous pleasures.

We know that He took pleasure in the building of His house, the Temple in Jerusalem, as we see in Haggai 1:8:  “Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, said the LORD (AKJV).”  He also took pleasure in letting us know of the mystery of his will concerning the Savior, His Son, Jesus Christ – Ephesians 1:9:  “Having made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he has purposed in himself: . . . (AKJV).”

As Christians, we want to please our God.  And we see from these scriptures that He takes pleasure when we honor Him and when He shares with us His marvelous plan for salvation in His Son.  So how do we become drinkers of the river of His pleasures?  Perhaps by honoring Him in worship (such as the Israelites did within the Temple) and by receiving salvation through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.  Those who have experienced this know that joy can very well come up full in our hearts, as we know Him and worship Him.

But in addition, could we not perhaps extrapolate from this that our Father wants to please us just, as good parents want to please their children and give them good gifts?  Luke 11:11 (WEY):  “And what father is there among you, who, if his son asks for a slice of bread, will offer him a stone? or if he asks for a fish, will instead of a fish offer him a snake?”

Yes, we wish to give good gifts to our children, and so does our Father in Heaven.  So might we take the liberty of picturing our God planning fun and interesting things for us His children, just as a loving earthly father does for his children?  Who knows what God has for us!?  No one on Earth!  As in I Corinthians 2:9, the things God prepares for us Who love Him cannot even be thought of in the life we live as humans.  Here it is that we drink from that river of His delights.  And some of them are surprises!

Lord, let us help those who struggle with decisions of LIFE to realize that good delights You have in store for us.  You have them in store for the elderly and feeble among us; for the preborn baby; for the young man who fathered a baby unintentionally.  Love these folks through us, Lord, and we ask that You will call them to Yourself to experience first-hand Your pleasures.
